Reid Statement On June Unemployment Rate

July 20, 2012

Washington, D.C. - Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement after Nevada’s unemployment remained at 11.6% percent in June:

“Nevada’s economy is slowly recovering, however, we must continue to work to create jobs and I will not rest until every hard-working Nevadan who wants a job has one. Strengthening our small business community will create jobs and expand the middle class and that’s why the Senate recently considered a bill to give small businesses a 10 percent tax cut on the amount by which they increase their payrolls this calendar year. Also, small businesses would have been allowed to write off 100 percent of the cost of any major equipment or software they purchase. And just yesterday the Senate considered legislation that would have lowered taxes for businesses moving jobs to the U.S. and eliminated subsidies for those shipping jobs overseas.  I will continue to work on legislation to create jobs and put Nevadans back to work and hope my Republican colleagues will join me in this effort.”
