Funds Will Allow RTC To Purchase 24 New Compressed Natural Gas Buses July 26, 2012 Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced $14,750,000 in grants for the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada. The first two grants are for $8,000,000 dollars and $5,000,000 respectively, and they will go to purchase 24 new CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) buses which demonstrate a positive environmental impact on air quality, and will replace vehicles that significantly exceeded their useful life. The second grant for $1,750,000 will help fund critical maintenance projects at the RTC's 36-acre Integrated Bus Maintenance Facility (IBMF), one of two repair facilities for the RTC's fixed route and paratransit fleet. The grants come from the United States Department of Transportation’s State of Good Repair Program. “These grants will enable the RTC of Southern Nevada to modernize their bus fleet and bus maintenance operation,” said Reid. “These new CNG buses will help RTC reduce fuel costs and they will improve Nevada’s environment by emitting less pollution. I will continue to work to make Nevada transit services more environmentally friendly.” ###
