Las Vegas, NV — On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, “National Clean Energy Summit 5.0: The Power of Choice” returns to Las Vegas at Bellagio Hotel & Resort for the nation’s foremost conversation about clean energy options. As a passionate advocate for energy alternatives, Former President Bill Clinton will give a keynote address during the summit about the importance of taking action and utilizing the power of choice when it comes to clean energy.

The annual conference is hosted by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), MGM Resorts International, the Clean Energy Project, Center for American Progress and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Visionaries like Tesla CEO Elon Musk come together with policy experts like Jon Wellinghoff, chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, to discuss how smart clean energy choices made by individuals, governments, and businesses can save consumers money, grow the economy, and improve our overall quality of life.

“No state has more to gain from a clean energy future than Nevada and I am so pleased Las Vegas is again hosting the fifth National Clean Energy Summit,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). “This year’s summit will focus on the potential to create a vibrant national clean energy marketplace when individuals, the private sector, and all levels of government exercise their ability to make responsible choices about what we want our energy future to look like—identifying and accelerating clean economic growth opportunities. I look forward to an enthusiastic dialogue on how Americans can continue to build a 21st century clean energy future and hope you can join us.”
Participants will have access to a range of panels featuring policymakers and industry leaders, presenting energy options that Americans can choose in order to stay competitive in the $2 trillion global clean energy market. The options these panels will put forward include driving immediate investments in our clean resources and policies to optimize renewable energy production, accelerating the production and ownership of alternative fuel vehicles, developing a smarter electricity grid, and investing in the research, development, deployment, and commercialization of new American-made clean-tech products.

“The investment decisions businesses make in the coming years are key to the future of our economy and our country,” said John Podesta, Chair of the Center for American Progress. “To move the country forward, we must create American jobs and compete with other nations on a global scale to develop, produce, and sell the new clean energy technologies of the future.”

The summit attracts clean energy leaders, public officials, business executives, energy policy experts, entrepreneurs, investors, citizens, students, and the media to discuss how to empower the public with the tools to promote clean energy, increase energy independence, and create jobs.

“Since 2008 these dynamic summits have become one of the country’s most visible and influential gatherings of leaders and creative policymakers who are helping to bring about the transformation to a clean energy economy,” said Lydia Ball, executive director of the Clean Energy Project. “The annual summits foster the most productive dialogues on one of the most pressing issues of our time.”
