September 17, 2010 Washington, DC -- Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement following more news that national Republicans, including House Republican Leader John Boehner and politicians in South Carolina, are calling for shipping the nation's nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain. "Hell no, that won't happen. Nevada is not the nation's dumping ground and it never will be as long as I have something to say about it. This project was ill-conceived from the beginning. It makes no sense to haul 77,000 tons of the most dangerous substance known to man across the country and into Nevada. Further, at a time when our state is already suffering economically, I'm not willing to risk our state's top industry--tourism--just because politicians in other states that produce the waste don't want it in their back yards." # # #
