Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement on the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days:Jewish High Holy Days:

“My thoughts are with families in Nevada and across the United States as they gather to observe the High Holy Days. On Rosh Hashanah, the celebration of the Jewish New Year, and on Yom Kippur, a day of personal atonement, we are given a chance to make amends and consider how our actions in the next year will affect those around us. It is during this time that we contemplate the principles of mitzvot, performing acts of kindness, as well as tzedakah, acting righteously. By remaining committed to our loved ones, friends, and our neighbors we will all be able to work towards making our families and our communities stronger.

“This New Year is also an opportunity to reaffirm our obligation to working towards peace and justice- for our country and for the global community. The State of Israel has been our enduring partner in advancing these virtues. And just as these days mark a new year, they also affirm the historic, unbreakable bond our two nations share.”

“I wish everyone observing these High Holy Days a peaceful year filled with happiness. L’shanah tova.”
