Money will fund programs focused on prevention and deterrence of drunk driving

 WASHINGTON, D.C.—Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign today announced more than $900,000 in funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to implement and enforce specific programs that will prevent and deter impaired driving on Nevada’s highways.

“No one should have to be injured or worse because of a drunk driver,” Reid said. “133 people were killed in Nevada as a result of alcohol related deaths in 2007, and another 130 in 2008. This money saves lives and makes our highways safer.”

Highway safety should be a focus of every city and this money is a step in the right direction,” said Sen. Ensign.  “If we can make our highways safer while improving conditions for every driver than all Nevadans benefit in the end.”
