Reid Announces $1.6 Million To Combat Violence Against Women

September 23, 2011

Washington, D.C. Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced two grants totaling $1,632,675 from the Department of Justice to help combat violence against Nevada women. These programs assist law enforcement and victim services organizations to increase victim safety and hold offenders accountable for their crimes. The STOP Violence Against Women Program will receive $1,465,472. The Sexual Assault Services Program (SASP) will receive $167,203.

“We must ensure Nevada women and their children who are victims of violence have the support and resources they need,” said Reid. “I have worked for decades to end violence against women and this year I am committed to reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, which has helped millions of women affected by abuse.”

Senator Reid has been a longtime advocate for funding to combat domestic violence. Since the 1990s, he has secured millions of dollars for Nevada women to provide services such as counseling and other preventive measures to victims of violence.
