September 26, 2008 Washington, DC—Nevada Senator Harry Reid today praised the Senate passage of the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination (NAHASD) Reauthorization Act of 2008, which will continue to provide thousands of homes for American Indian and Alaska Native families. "I am so glad we passed this important bill," Reid said. "This responsible legislation helps Nevada's tribes and all those across the country create housing systems that best fit their needs. It is paramount to ensure adequate housing for the Native community, and all Americans." The continued funding of NAHASDA will help produce more homes in Indian Country, and will allow tribes to build other facilities necessary for healthy communities -- day-care centers, laundromats, and multi-purpose community centers. The bill also authorizes a study to assess the existing data sources for determining the need for housing and funding programs. The bill now goes to the House of Representatives for final passage. ###
