Reid Statement In Celebration Of Rosh Hashanah

September 28, 2011

Washington, D.C.---Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement in celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the first of the Jewish High Holidays.

“Today, my family and I join the millions of Jewish families throughout Nevada and our nation as they gather to welcome the New Year, and pause to reflect on the events of the past year. The High Holy Days are a time to renew the ties of kinship and the bonds of friendship. They are also a time to acknowledge the suffering that continues in our own nation and around the world, and recommit ourselves to the universal values of mitzvot and tzedakah.

“From our earliest days as a country, Jewish families have celebrated this holiday. As their family ties have bound together people and communities throughout the generations, so too has our commitment to the State of Israel persevered. Each new year will bring new challenges, but throughout the years, our commitment to the State of Israel will remain unshakeable.

L’shanah tova – for a good new year full of health, peace and happiness.”
