Reid Announces More Than $4.1 Million For Northern Nevada Fire Station Construction

Reno, Dayton to receive funding for response enhancement, community safety

September 28, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced more than $4.1 million in economic recovery funding for northern Nevada fire station construction.  These grants, which were awarded to Sierra Fire Protection District and Central Lyon County Fire Protection District, will build new or modify existing fire stations to enhance response capabilities and protect communities from fire-related hazards. The grants will also replace unsafe or uninhabitable structures and expand fire protection coverage in compliance with National Fire Protection Association standards.

“Putting Nevadans back to work is the top priority of the economic recovery package, and that’s what this money is going towards,” Reid said. “In a state as dry as Nevada, a safe and efficient response to fires and fire prevention is a must.  These funds will help us take a big step in the right direction.”
