Reid Meets With Sheriff Douglas Gillespie

Nevada Senator Harry Reid, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Doug Gillespie, Police Director of Intergovernmental Affairs Tom Roberts, and Metro Police Sergeant Chuck Callaway met in Washington DC to talk about funding for law enforcement grants.

Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid met today with Sheriff Douglas C. Gillespie of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Sen. Reid talked with the sheriff about the continued need for the government funding of various crime-reduction initiatives like the Community Oriented Policing Services and Edward Byrne Memorial Grants programs, both of which help provide crime prevention resources to law enforcement agencies.

Sheriff Gillespie also discussed his leadership role as Vice President of the Major Cities Chiefs Association, a professional law enforcement association of elected sheriffs. The organization provides a forum for the advancement of important legislative issues to help improve the public safety needs of suburban and metropolitan communities.

“Protecting our communities is our top priority, and I appreciate all the Sheriff has done to keep our neighborhoods safe,” said Reid. “I look forward to continuing to work with him to make sure federal and local law enforcement are working together and have the resources they need to keep America safe.”
