February 16, 2010 Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today made the following statement regarding the order from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Atomic Safety and Licensing Board to grant the Department of Energy’s stay on the Yucca Mountain license application proceedings. This is an important step towards withdrawing the license application from NRC’s review. “Today’s news that the license application proceedings have been stopped is further evidence of the Administration’s position that Yucca Mountain is no longer an option for the storage of nuclear waste in this country. I applaud the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board on their decision and for placing the safety and security of Nevadans above all else.”
