February 23, 2010 Washington, D.C.—Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement today on the decision to include Nevada’s eligibility for the Department of Education’s “Race to the Top” funding as an agenda item in the special session of the Nevada State Legislature. “The Legislature's decision to address Nevada’s eligibility for federal education dollars in the special session is an important development for our state,” said Reid. “Now legislators on both sides of the aisle have a chance to remove the barriers that are preventing our state from competing for millions of dollars in urgently-needed funding from the Race to the Top program. I am glad the voices of Nevada’s students, parents and educators are being heard and I look forward to seeing this issue resolved within the next few days.”
