March 4, 2010 Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement today after the Senate Judiciary Committee approved Gloria Navarro’s nomination for the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. President Obama nominated Navarro last December on Sen. Reid’s recommendation. If confirmed by the Senate, she will be the first Latina to serve as a federal judge for Nevada. “I am extremely pleased the Senate Judiciary Committee has recognized Navarro’s merits and potential by voting her nomination out of committee for consideration on the Senate floor. Navarro has proven throughout her personal and professional life that she embodies the values our country cherishes — hard work, discipline, and respect for the rule of law. As Majority Leader, I will do all I can to ensure Navarro is quickly confirmed by the full Senate.”
