Nearly 80 jobs created in just the first three months of 2010 May 26, 2010 Washington, DC—Nevada Senator Harry Reid today highlighted Nevada’s leadership in home weatherizations as a direct result of $37.3 million from The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Nearly 80 jobs were created in the first three months of this year to weatherize 2,318 Nevada homes through the Weatherization Assistance Program. The program targets low-income homes; families in these newly energy-efficient homes save an average of $437 per year in energy bills. “The Recovery Act is helping Nevada lead the country in energy efficiency and clean energy job creation,” Reid said. “Thousands of Nevada families are saving hundreds of dollars a year on their energy bills because of the weatherization program. While the results to date are impressive, the number of weatherized homes that result from this program will more than double and more jobs will be created as the rest of the funding is released to the state in the coming months.” In order to receive the second 50 percent of the funding allocated to Nevada, the state needed to weatherize at least 30 percent of their total estimated homes and meet other reporting milestones. By exceeding these thresholds, Nevada will receive the remaining funding to weatherize more than 5,500 homes in total with Recovery Act dollars.
