Reid Announces More Than $2.1million For Statewide Buses And Facilities

August 19, 2010

Las Vegas, NV—Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced More than $2.1 million for the Nevada Department Transportation to support bus projects and existing facilities across the state. Some projects include: the replacement of the vehicles and buildings at the Sunset Maintenance Facility, new natural gas vans in Washoe country to replace old vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles at Lake Tahoe, and facility improvements for Carson City maintenance shops and bus stops.

“Without bus service, some residents can’t get to the grocery store, the doctor’s office, or even to their jobs,” said Reid. “This investment in buses and vans in Nevada’s cities as well as our rural areas means more freedom for those who live and work here.”

A portion of the funding will be used to purchase vehicles for Churchill Country and rural communities in Southern Nevada. Churchill will receive 2 paratransit vehicles for demand response and deviated fixed route services near Fallon. The Southern Nevada Transit Coalition will use the funding to help meet demand in Mesquite, Bunkerville, Indian Springs and Moapa Valley.
