Funding will be used for construction, prevention programs

 Las Vegas, NV—Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced nearly $3.4 million in grants from the Department of Health and Human Services for training and prevention programs as well as improvements to health infrastructure across the state.

“The new health insurance reform law will make it easier and more affordable for Nevadans to see a doctor when they need one,” said Reid. “The construction of more health care facilities is an investment in the health and economy of our state that will put Nevadans back to work, help us meet the increased demand for health care, and ensure Nevadans have the access they need.”

The University of Nevada, Reno is receiving two grants: $742,500 for the construction of health care facilities; and $800,000 for their Center of Excellence for patients with diabetes.  Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation and Boulder City Hospital will receive $693,000 and $990,000 respectively for facility construction.  All four projects are being funded thanks to congressionally directed spending secured by Senator Reid.  Additionally, the Nevada State Department of Health and Human Services will receive more than $100,000 to improve volunteer staff recruiting, liability protection and personnel security.  The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony will receive $65,000 to fund an injury prevention program.
