Grants will help spur private investment and increase access

 Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced more than $10 million dollars for broadband Internet projects in rural Nevada and for the Reno–Sparks Indian Colony. KeyOn Communications will receive $10,161,222 which is being matched by a $2 million private investment. This funding will allow KeyOn to offer 4G last-mile wireless broadband internet and digital phone service in the 39 most rural communities in the state. Approximately 93,000 people, 5,522 business and more than 800 municipal organizations will benefit from this service.
 
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony will receive a $400,000 grant that will allow the tribal incorporation to offer wireless broadband in the Hungry Valley Reservation. Nearly 400 people will benefit from this.  This is the second grant to help spur broadband development for the tribe.
 
“Opening up these areas to better and faster connectivity lays a foundation for job creation and economic growth in rural Nevada,” said Reid. “The $10 million grant for KeyOn helps encourage private investment in rural communities, and the improved connectivity in Indian communities creates opportunities for telemedicine, online education, and tribal business development. Getting Nevada online is one of the best investments we can make in our state’s economy.”
