Reid: Republican Threats To Raise Taxes On Middle-Class Nevada Are Indefensible

September 14, 2010

Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today in response to recent Republican threats to raise taxes on middle-class families and small businesses:

“Middle-class families and small businesses in Nevada are struggling to make ends meet, and they need tax relief.  That’s why Democrats are fighting to permanently cut taxes for middle-class Americans.  But now my Republican colleagues are threatening to raise taxes on middle-class Americans if they can’t secure more tax giveaways for millionaires and CEOs who ship American jobs overseas.

“The logic of my Republican colleagues on this issue is indefensible: they are holding tax cuts for the middle class hostage because they want to force the middle class to pay for more tax breaks to benefit millionaires. Republicans should not be threatening to raise taxes on middle-class families in Nevada and across the nation. I urge my Republican colleagues to reconsider their threat, put politics aside and help our economy recover by helping working families get through these tough times.”
