Reid Announces More Than $7.5 Million For Transportation Safety Improvements

 Washington D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced that Nevada will receive more than $7.5 million in Department of Transportation funding to improve roadways, airport runways, and traffic safety programs.
 
“The construction and repair of runways and roads will create jobs and make transportation across our state safer,” Reid said. “Investment in infrastructure projects is an investment in Nevada’s workforce that will help our economy recover.”
 
The Alamo Landing Field Airport will receive $400,000 for the construction of new taxiways and for new runway design. The new taxiways will meet the FAA design standards and increase the safety of aircraft operations at the airport.
 
Carson Airport will receive $1,578,538 to be used in the construction of a runways and taxiways. The new sections of the runways will improve the safety of aircraft and passengers that use the airport. 

The North Las Vegas Airport will receive $3,559,639 to fund the rehabilitation of the west-side aircraft parking apron. The project will replace the rapidly deteriorating pavement and improve the marking, lighting, and drainage abilities of the airfield which have led to the advanced rate of deterioration.
 
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada will receive $992,000 for the construction of Boulder Highways Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) facilities. The BRT facilities will include curbside lanes from downtown Las Vegas to Tropicana Avenue and contain lighting, level platform boarding, ticket vending machines, and displays announcing the next vehicle’s arrival.
 
Carson City will receive $972,388 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety. The funds will be used in implementing and enforcing programs that prevent and deter impaired driving.
