Nevada Senator Harry Reid and White House Advisor Elizabeth Warren
Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid met today with Elizabeth Warren, Assistant to President Obama and Special Advisor to Treasury Secretary Geithner. She is in charge of setting up the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection. Reid and Warren discussed the creation of the Bureau and what measures need to be taken to ensure its longevity and effectiveness.
“Elizabeth’s life’s work has been devoted to the middle class and she is now taking on the task of further assisting Nevadans by implementing the oversight needed to protect consumers,” said Reid. “I thank her for meeting with me and I look forward to working with her to protect the interest of Nevada’s consumers.”
Warren, a Harvard law professor and longtime consumer advocate, was appointed in 2008 to chair the Congressional Oversight Panel that oversaw the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. In her new position she will work to implement the sweeping financial reforms passed by Congress to protect consumers from unfair or harmful financial products.
