Reid Statement On Resignation of General James Jones As National Security Advisor

October 8, 2010

Washington, DC –Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today after the White House announced the resignation of General James Jones as National Security Advisor.  The President announced that current Deputy National Security Advisor Tom Donilon will replace General James Jones as National Security Advisor:

“General James Jones is a patriot who has dedicated his career to defending and protecting America.  Even before his most recent role as National Security Advisor for the Obama Administration, General Jones spent 40 years in the United States Marine Corps and he served in several other critical roles to help keep our nation safe.  I join President Obama and the rest of our grateful nation to thank General Jones for his decades of service to America.

“President Obama made a wise decision by choosing Tom Donilon to replace General Jones as National Security Advisor.  Tom has already been an invaluable counsel to this Administration as Deputy National Security Advisor, and he will bring years of experience and profound knowledge of America’s national security needs to this new role.  President Obama has selected a talented and experienced group of individuals who will keep our nation safe and secure.”
