Reid: Nevada Families Are Ones Step Closer To Common-Sense Protection From Unsafe Food

November 17, 2010

Washington, DC - Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today after the Senate voted to move forward on legislation to ensure the safety of America’s food supply:

“Few issues hit home more directly than making sure that what we eat is safe. With recent stories reminding us of the need for constant vigilance, I am pleased that today we were able to take steps toward keeping our food safe and imposing tough new standards on food producers.

“I talk to Nevadans like Rylee Gustafson of Henderson and Linda Rivera of Las Vegas, who have endured terrible illnesses and unspeakable pain because they consumed unsafe food.  Today, we are one step closer to ensuring that millions of families in Nevada and across the nation will be spared from this preventable harm, and I am encouraged that a number of Republicans chose to stand with us on this critical, common-sense legislation.”
