Reid Statement on Nevada's September Unemployment Numbers

October 19, 2009

Washington, D.C.Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement regarding Nevada’s unemployment numbers for the month of September:

"While we have seen encouraging signs recently, including a slight increase in Nevada's leading economic indicators, that indicate a gradual improvement in our state's economy, Nevada's growing unemployment rate remains troubling.

“Nevada’s families are my priority and this report only reinforces how vital it is that we continue to protect and create jobs.  Inaction is not an option.  This is why we must set aside political differences and immediately extend unemployment insurance.

“News that the state has possibly fallen short on distributing job-creating stimulus funding is highly disturbing.  I encourage the state to improve its efforts to take full advantage of the $2 billion I helped secure for Nevada.  Partisan bickering must be set aside so we can strengthen our economy and put Nevadans back to work.  By working together and working smart, we can help accelerate Nevada's economic recovery."
