500 megawatt facility will create more than 1,300 jobs, power 150,000 homes

 Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today made the following statement on Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s approval of the Amargosa Farm Road Solar Project.  The Amargosa project is the second large-scale solar energy project on public lands in Nevada.

 

“Nevada’s economy will be stronger and more vibrant if we can attract new industries that tap into the enormous solar, wind, and geothermal energy resources in our state.  Secretary Salazar understands the importance of developing these resources and I applaud his decision to move forward with a project that will put Nevadans back to work, strengthen our economy, and help Nevada lead the nation in clean energy development.”

 

According to the Department of Interior, the Amargosa Farm Road Solar Project will employ concentrated solar power technology including two 250 megawatt parabolic trough, dry-cooled power plants equipped with thermal energy storage capability.  The project will be located in the Amargosa Valley about 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas, in Nye County, Nevada, on 4,350 acres of public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
