November 11, 2011 Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following on Veterans Day: “Today we honor the hundreds of thousands of veterans from Nevada, and many more across the country, who have sacrificed to protect the freedoms our country holds dear. The brave men and women who have put on the uniform to keep us safe exemplify the best our state and our country have to offer. “Nevada is home to more than 230,000 veterans, and we hope each day that the 1,200 Nevadans currently serving overseas return home safely. When they return to Nevada, it is our duty to repay their service by ensuring they can find a job, have access to medical care and can transition smoothly back to civilian life. While we need to do much more, the bi-partisan bill that we passed in the Senate to spur hiring among the nearly 900,000 out-of-work veterans in Nevada and around the country is a good start. “Our veterans and their families deserve the best, which is why we must continue to keep them in our thoughts not just on Veterans Day, but every day.” ###
