Exercise could severely damage efforts to stabilize economy November 19, 2009 Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today sent a letter to Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security, asking her to reconsider a planned Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) exercise scheduled for May in Las Vegas. The training exercise for first responders would simulate a national level security threat on the Las Vegas Strip. While Reid acknowledges the importance of these training exercises and appreciates FEMA’s recognition of Las Vegas as a high profile target, holding such an event at this time would create unnecessary anxiety and harm efforts to boost tourism and investment in Las Vegas. The text of Sen. Reid’s letter is included below. November 19, 2009
