Reid Statement on 13th Annual International Survivors of Suicide Day

November 18, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid made the following statement on the 13th annual International Survivors of Suicide Day, which is tomorrow:

“Suicide is an all-too-common tragedy, especially in Nevada, where we have one of the highest suicide rates in the nation.  Suicide can devastate families and entire communities.  I lost my father to suicide and it took my family many years to talk about it.  Throughout my career I have worked to promote measures that help educate families about the risks of suicide and to help prevent them.  I hope all those who have gathered at conferences today find comfort and healing by sharing their stories and support from friends and loved ones.”
