Dr. Elliott Parker advocates for investment in infrastructure at Senate Committee meeting

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today welcomed University of Nevada, Reno economics professor Elliott Parker to a meeting held by the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee about the economy and deficit reduction. The meeting came one day before a vote in the Senate on the second piece of President Obama’s American Jobs Act.  The Rebuild America Jobs Act would fund $250 million worth of projects in Nevada and support 3,300 much-needed local jobs.

“Infrastructure is one of the best investments we can make because it creates jobs and ensures our long-term economic stability,” Dr. Parker said.  “Our state’s economy depends on reliable roads, railways and runways to function effectively and efficiently.  Nevada’s economy would benefit immediately and for many years to come with investment in our state’s infrastructure.”

“I thank Dr. Parker for offering his expertise in how to help create jobs for Nevadans and grow our economy,” Reid said.  “I urge Republicans to support The Rebuild America Jobs Act because it would put Nevadans back to work building roads, bridges and highways.”

Dr. Parker is the economics department chair and professor at UNR’s College of Business.  He frequently provides expert analysis to Nevada and national media.  Dr. Parker’s research on Chinese economic reform, international financial policy, firm productivity and comparative efficiency has been published in revered academic journals.
