Du Has Bipartisan Support From Nevada Officials November 3, 2011 Washington, D.C. – Miranda Du, nominee to the U.S. District Court, District of Nevada, in Las Vegas, today was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Nevada Senator Harry Reid recommended Du, who would be Nevada’s first Asian Pacific American federal judge. The Senate Judiciary Committee received numerous letters of support for Du’s nomination from a bipartisan coalition of Nevada officials. Republican Governor Brian Sandoval wrote to the Committee saying Du has his “full support” and “she has exhibited great character and is well respected in the legal community.” Republican Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki said in his letter Du is “intelligent, inquisitive, reliable and dedicated,” and he went on to say, “I strongly encourage the Senate to confirm Ms. Du.” Republican Mayor of Reno, Robert Cashell said Du “will be a great addition to our federal bench. I strongly recommend her for confirmation.” The Senate Judiciary Committee also received letters in support of Du’s confirmation from the Nevada Women’s Fund; Committee to Aid Abused Women; Nevada Association of Mechanical Contractors; The Association General Contractors; National Asian Peace Officers Association; and National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. In October, Republican Senator Dean Heller joined Senator Reid in introducing Du at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. “I am pleased Miranda Du’s nomination passed the Judiciary Committee,” said Reid. “She is a true American success story, and I am confident she will make an outstanding federal judge. I look forward to her swift confirmation by the Senate.” Full letters of support are available in PDF by request. ###
