Derby to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity

December 16, 2011

Washington, D.C.—Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced his appointment of Dr. Jill Derby, the former Chair of the Board of Regents for the Nevada System on Higher Education, to a federal advisory board that advises the Secretary of Education on the accreditation and certification process for institutions of higher education. The board meets in Washington with the Secretary of Education.

“Jill has been a leader in higher education for nearly two decades,” Reid said.  “In her role on the Board of Regents, Jill was responsible for shaping education policy for more than 90,000 students in Nevada.  I am confident that she will be an asset to Department of Education in this important advisory role.”

Derby will fill the vacancy left by Dan Klaich, the Chancellor of the Nevada System on Higher Education.  Sen. Reid appointed Klaich to the Advisory Committee in 2009.
