Washington, D.C.- With passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013, Nevada Senator Harry Reid secured $21,000,000 in funding for the construction of a new 300 member Army Reserve Center (ARC) to be located in Las Vegas. Senator Reid’s Amendment # 3047 also was included in the legislation. This amendment will ensure our combat-disabled military retirees receive proper combat-related disability and retirement benefits.
 
“I am pleased we can now provide these remarkable men and women who sacrificed so much for our country with the fair benefits they deserve. Our nation’s service members and veterans have given so much to defend this nation. We should never deny these veterans who have served with honor the rights of their service-earned retirement pay simply because they became disabled in the line of duty. The passage of this amendment guarantees that our injured veterans will no longer be denied their full earned disability and retirement benefits.

Senator Reid secured $21,000,000 to construct a new 300 member Army Reserve Center (ARC) consisting of an approximately 37,000 square foot Training Building and an approximately 21,000 square foot Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA)/Organizational Maintenance Shop (OMS) in Las Vegas, NV.

About Amendment # 3047 to the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act
Under current law, the Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC) program awards injured military retirees an amount equal to their service-earned retired pay in addition to their VA disability compensation.  Unfortunately, an unanticipated flaw in the current statutory CRSC formula can actually cause a reduction in their compensation amount when the VA increases their disability rating. Senator Reid secured passage of this important amendment which eliminates the “glitch” in the Combat-Related Special Compensation program, finally ending this disservice to our retired military men and women and ensuring they receive the proper compensation proportional to their length of service and disability level.
