December 2, 2011 Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today released the following statement on the Menendez-Kirk amendment that would impose new sanctions on Iran as part of the National Defense Authorization Act: “I applaud the passage of this bipartisan amendment that will hold accountable international banks that work with the Central Bank of Iran. Iran’s actions are unacceptable and pose a danger to the United States and the entire world. Iran supports terrorist groups, arms the killers of American soldiers, lies about its nuclear program, violates its citizens’ basic rights, and threatens Israel’s security. We will take every step necessary to protect Nevadans and all Americans from any threats to our safety. As the bill moves forward, I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that these provisions increase American and international pressure against this reprehensible regime.” ###
