July 14, 2008 Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced nearly $1.5 million in grant funding for the Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization (NIREC), a nonprofit organization established to create new renewable energy business opportunities in Nevada and the region. NIREC aims to deliver commercially viable renewable energy technologies to the marketplace by assisting researchers with developing their ideas and prototypes, helping with licensing, and attracting corporate sponsorship for renewable energy projects. The Institute introduces public and private organizations to innovative research on clean renewable energy technologies to advance and commercialize cost-effective renewable energy solutions for Nevada and the nation. “This money will help NIREC move forward with its important work to commercialize renewable energy research right here in Nevada,” Reid said. “By combining public and private sector expertise with innovative clean renewable energy technologies, NIREC will play an important role in making Nevada the nation’s renewable energy leader.” Senator Reid is working to make Nevada the leader of the clean energy revolution, which would end our reliance on fossil fuel and oil, while bringing thousands of new, good paying jobs to the Silver State. # # #
