Nevada leading in deploying stimulus funds to put Nevadans back to work

More Recovery Act-funded projects will begin this summer

May 20, 2010

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today highlighted the important jobs that have been established in the Silver State now that 90 percent of the approximately $201 million of Recovery Act funding for the road projects has been awarded.  Many of these projects are underway and more are scheduled to begin this summer and fall.

“The reason I fought so hard for Recovery Act funding was to get Nevadans back on the job,” said Reid. “ Our state is leading the way in maximizing this funding to improve the quality and safety of the state’s roads and highways while creating jobs across the state so more Nevada families can pay their bills and keep food on the table.”

Nevada currently has more than 30 road projects under construction with an additional six projects scheduled to begin in the next month. The state has also received approximately $7 million in transit funding to purchase 46 transit and paratransit vehicles and make other transit improvements.
