Reid Statement On Nomination Of Sally Jewell

February 6, 2013

Annapolis, M.D.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement after President Obama nominated Sally Jewell to serve as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior:

“Sally Jewell will bring valuable experience and a depth of knowledge and expertise to the Department of the Interior. In nominating Ms. Jewell, President Obama has reaffirmed his commitment to responsibly managing and protecting our nation’s natural resources and great outdoors while also developing our immense clean energy potential. This Cabinet post has particular significance for my home state. More than 85 percent of our land is owned by the Federal government and we have made great progress towards a clean energy future on Nevada’s public lands. I am confident that Ms. Jewell will continue the stellar work of her predecessor, Ken Salazar, who has served our nation with great distinction.”
