Washington, D.C.– Nevada Senator Harry Reid met with Eliseo Medina and members of Fast for Families to discuss immigration reform. Senator Reid emphasized the importance of pressuring House Speaker John Boehner for a vote on the House floor.
“I deeply admire the courage and perseverance of the Fast for Families members on behalf of family unity and immigration reform. Eliseo and the many other fasters’ deeply personal decision to go without food embodies a spirit of solidarity and peaceful pursuit of justice, in a way that reminds me of the great Cesar Chavez,” said Senator Reid. “It’s been almost a year since the Senate passed a commonsense immigration reform bill. Every day that House Republicans refuse to take up that bill, their inaction harms our economy and leads to the separation of more families. I hope Speaker Boehner recognizes that the country deserves a vote on immigration and acts on the message these courageous fasters have been sharing with our nation.”
