Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement on the passing of Holocaust survivor, writer and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel:
“Elie Wiesel was a poet whose devotion to peace made the world a better place. He stood as a beacon of morality and as a champion of love and acceptance for people everywhere.
“Elie Wiesel endured the atrocities of the Holocaust and emerged determined to bring meaning to unthinkable horror. He served as a moral compass for the entire world, taking a brave stand against genocide and injustice that wherever it arose. Throughout his life, he showed us the importance of standing up to hate and embracing the shared feelings of love and empathy that tie us all together. Through his eloquent writing, he painted an unflinching portrait of evil while also illustrating the enduring quality of the human spirit. He spent his life devoted to the best in humanity and working toward peace and understanding.
