–U.S. Senator Harry Reid of Nevada today sent President Bush a letter urging bipartisan support to address Federal Housing Administration (FHA) reform and funding for housing counseling in order to keep
families in their homes. Bush has called on Congress to pass FHA legislation, but he must do more to convince Republicans to work with Democrats on getting it done. Reid’s letter urges Bush to personally intervene and persuade Senate Republicans to end their obstructionism on this important legislation. As Nevada and the rest of the country’s subprime mortgage and foreclosure crisis grows, Republicans continue to block a bill to help as many as 200,000 Americans at risk of losing their homes. They blocked the FHA Modernization Act and Transportation HUD conference report twice in less than one month.Reid will continue working to ensure deserving families at risk can stay in their homes.
