Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement regarding the latest unemployment numbers for Nevada:
“I am glad to see the unemployment rate decrease, but it only provides further evidence that we need to create more jobs in Nevada.
“While the Economic Recovery Act prevented a bad situation from becoming much worse and has helped thousands of Nevadans, there is still more work ahead to create good-paying Nevada jobs.
“I am currently working with President Obama and my colleagues in Congress on a fiscally responsible jobs bill that will create additional jobs through tax incentives for businesses and by making important investments in areas like clean energy—an important industry for Nevada. I am already talking with many of our state’s employers to ensure this bill includes solutions that will strengthen business and put more Nevadans to work.
“One thing we must do is diversify our state’s economy, which is why I have worked to bring hundreds of millions of dollars to Nevada for renewable energy development. Unfortunately, the Governor has not taken the opportunity to quickly implement state measures like tax abatements for clean energy projects, passed earlier this year by the Legislature, that will help Nevada compete with other states in attracting clean energy projects.
“My thoughts are with all Nevadans who are struggling during these difficult times. As the Senate Majority Leader, I will continue to work with anyone and everyone in Nevada and Washington on solutions to create jobs and get our economy back on track.”
