DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS' AFFAIRS Phone: (800) 827-1000 The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides a wide variety of services to veterans, their dependents, and survivors of deceased veterans. The VA is responsible for administering benefits to qualifying veterans including: service-connected disability or death, dependency and indemnity compensation for survivors of veterans, vocational rehabilitation and counseling for service-disabled veterans, pension for veterans unable to work, home loan guaranty, U.S. Government and National Life Insurance, "Wheelchair Homes," automobiles or other conveyances for certain disabled veterans, a guardianship service to protect incompetent and minor beneficiaries, education liaison service to colleges and training establishments, burial allowances, and flags to drape the caskets of deceased veterans.
